Mary Kemp is a prolific contemporary impressionist artist who adores the seaside.
Mary has painted her whole life, and in her own words has said that painting is something of an obsession! Even with the demands of raising a young family and working as a nurse for many years, Mary always devoted some time to painting and her passion for her work is clear to see.
As the years have passed and family commitments have lessened, Mary has been able to work pretty much full-time on her artwork. Drawing and painting every day to produce a large range of work.
Mary Kemp is inspired by many things, in particular, the natural world, which is quite simply a feast for her eyes. She finds that her creative ‘muscles’ are stimulated all the time, especially by the beauty of the seaside, which is at the heart of her painting.
Mary’s paintings are a salute to the English east coast and the joy of life. She likes to observe of all that goes on around us, from family beach scenes, harbour life and the wide-open seas. Mary works from her own observation, drawing on the spot and taking photos. Armed with this information Mary then heads back to the studio where the painting takes shape.
Mary uses a bright, bold and playful colour palette to illustrate just how beautiful the world is!
