David New-Small was a graduate from the University of California. On moving to Canada in 1970 he started a career within the social services before turning to his true dedication and passion of glass blowing full time. After studying at Pilchuck between 1978 and 1981 he opened he first humble studio in his own garage after graduating.
Just two years later in 1983 he went on to co-found New-Small & Sterling Glass; the facility in Granville Island was the first ever independent studio glass facility to exist in BC. Following the establishment of his studio, David went on to represent galleries around the whole of North America and later all over the world.
David’s collections can be seen on display at the Vancouver Art Gallery, the Corning Museum of Glass, and as far and wide as the Philippines. Having worked on both private and public collections, David has also served on the Board of Directors at the Canadian Craft Museum.
David New-Small currently lives in Gibson, BC, and he has achieved many awards during his career. His exhibitions have been on display all over the world, and he is currently a member of the Circle Craft, the Glass Art Association of Canada, and the BC arts association, as well as the Ontario Crafts council.
