Aberaeron Art – Impressionist Painting
Rob Leckey is a British painter and an elected Associate of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (ARBSA).
Following retirement as a Primary School Headteacher, Rob now spends his time seeking subjects that can be turned into paintings in his studio. He has held a passion for painting all his life continually developing his style with vibrant impressionist landscapes.
Primarily, Rob works with acrylic paint and ink, collage and mixed media. The acrylics are applied with a variety of tools, such as rollers, pieces of shaped wood, card or indeed any found materials! Rob’s collage materials comprise torn or shaped tissue paper, newsprint, and magazine illustrations. Details are also added with oil and chalk pastels, pen and ink. Rob’s unique style of painting has been published in a book entitled “Painting Without Brushes”.
Like many artists, Rob’s inspiration comes from the subject matter. Boats and harbours, landscape, including his native Shropshire, town and cityscapes all inspired his impressionist style. He enjoys experimenting with colour, media and techniques. The outcome of the mark-making is unpredictable due to the nature of how the collage, paint and inks are applied
“Along the way many accidents happen, interesting colours and unique shapes emerge, it is a process I find incredibly rewarding!” says Rob.
Rob has exhibited, sold and received awards in all the local Shropshire Exhibitions and Galleries, The Royal Society of British Artists (Mall Galleries) and the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists. His work was featured in an article in the December 2013 issue of the Artist Magazine.
