Large Decorative Glass Bowl ‘Amber Harvest’ by Mark Ditzler

This large decorative glass bowl ‘Amber Harvest’ celebrates the rich colours of autumn.  The bowl contains bold latticino canes made in the hot shop. Latticino is a glass-making process that uses coloured glass canes. The bowl also contains smaller glass twists and threads pulled in a flame.

The rich amber glass has an iridized coating, which creates a metallic pattern on the glass visible in low light or at different angles of view. Additional details include vitreous enamel leaf impressions, brilliant dichroic glass, and gold lustre. The many design details in this large decorative glass bowl will provide years of enjoyment.  A perfect centrepiece!

N.B. Each sculptural bowl is completely unique and Made to Order. Please allow at least 3-4 weeks for delivery. The image shown is an example of the series and cane patterns may vary slightly.

Signed and dated on the base. Hand wash only.

Large Decorative Glass Bowl Artist

Mark Ditzler is a glass artist working in Seattle, USA.  His pieces feature special “surface design elements”. These may be twisted canes or detailed murrini made in the hot shop, or small twists and threads of coloured glass from the flameworking torch.

Screen-printed enamels and powders, iridescent and dichroic glass, or gold and silver foils are all used as accents. These techniques are carefully “fused” to produce glass art of heirloom quality.

Using a wide range of kiln-forming techniques, Mark Ditzler Glass Studio produces glass wall panels and sculpture, sinks, and lighting. Mark has completed many private, corporate and public projects. Working with designers, architects and homeowners, he loves the process of taking an idea from concept to completion.

Mark has degrees in Fine Art and Industrial Design. Originally a clay artist, he studied glassblowing and neon before discovering kiln-formed glass almost 30 years ago. He has been a visiting instructor at many studios. These include Penland School of Craft, the Corning Museum of Glass and the Tacoma Museum of Glass etc.

Artist Statement

“As a designer-craftsman, it is often the fine details and small surprises I enjoy.  I’m inspired by the endless possibilities of working in glass, the most magical of materials! In my studio I try to bring together techniques from different crafts, learned over the years, to create a unique signature in my work.”
