Cast Glass Bowl ‘Rock Pool’ by Elin Isaksson

The bottom of this cast glass bowl was set in a sand mould and has retained the sugary texture of the sand, whereas the top is beautifully smooth.

Each mould is only used once as it has to be broken to extract the glass piece, so every piece is completely unique.

Delicate shards of glass in dusky blue, aquamarine, turquoise and dark grey stringers are sprinkled with a light dusting of blue aventurine colour.

Product Care: Buff the shiny top surface with a dry, lint-free cotton cloth.

N.B. The images shown are an example of the ones in the series. Each piece is handmade and therefore there will be small variations in colour and pattern. Each one is completely unique and signed by the artist.

Cast Glass Bowl Artist

Elin Isaksson Glass Artist and Designer Maker was born in the Philippines but grew up near the Lapland border in Sweden. Her love of glass began when she was 19 on a visit to a local glass studio where she was able to try glass blowing. She immediately fell in love with it and never looked back.

She was soon in the Kingdom of Glass, a famous region in Southern Sweden, where she enrolled at the Orrefors Glass School.

In 2001, Elin moved to Bonny Scotland where she began her BA (Hons) in Glass at Edinburgh College of Art (ECA). She graduated with an MA in Applied Arts in 2006 and began teaching glassblowing techniques to ECA undergraduates as an Artist in Residence.

While building up her portfolio of glass art, Elin undertook Master Classes with Simon Moore and fellow glass master Dante Marioni at Lybster’s North Lands Glass Centre in Scotland. She has also travelled to France, Italy and back to Sweden for further masterclasses.

Elin set up her own glass studio in 2010 and in 2019 she set up in the historic Scottish town of Dunblane.

The Elin Isaksson Glass Studio designs and creates hand-blown luxury gifts, glass sculptures, interior accessories, functional glassware, lighting, and wall art interior design commissions. Smaller pieces can be brought together to create larger wall art installations or lighting creations.

Elin has undertaken commissions for Oil and Gas Awards, Abrdn, National Museum of Scotland, Glenfiddich, Dewar’s Whisky, Saga II Cruise Ship and many others. These commissions have included lighting, outdoor sculptures, awards and wall art, to name but a few.

Elin’s inspiration comes from fond memories of growing up in the Arctic north of Sweden. Childhood reminiscences of snow-capped mountains, skiing cross-country and ice-fishing.

The play of light, movement and texture of nature is reproduced as an essence – an ethereal glimmer or hint, rather than a direct likeness. Her minimalist Scandinavian style is also heavily influenced by her early training at Orrefors Glass School.
Elin draws inspiration from fond memories of her homeland Sweden, like ice fishing and cross-country skiing in the snowy mountains. Her work is inspired by her early Scandinavian glass training at the Orrefors Glass School and the minimalist forms they were taught, which still influence her work today.

The colour palette she turns to in her work is an eclectic mix of brooding Scottish landscapes and the quixotic heat and colourful flavours of travels across the Indian subcontinent. Innovation and new ideas come within the inherent movement in glass blowing and the continual contest of heat and gravity. The fluid energy of glass is a continuous source of new inspiration and pushes Elin’s work forward in its ongoing evolution.

Her designs often reveal a sense of movement, capturing the inherent energy and fluidity of working with molten glass. Blowing glass is a constant battle against heat and gravity and many new ideas are born through observing the behaviour of glass whilst making other work. Developing bespoke work for clients also feeds into new creative ideas and often leads to a new direction in the material.
