Decorative Glass Platter ‘Silver Leaf ‘ by Myra Wishart

To make this decorative glass platter, Myra has sandwiched silver leaves between individually cut pieces of glass. Then after multiple firings, the piece has a beautiful textured finish.

Finally, the piece is polished to give a warm matt finish, to this stylish contemporary platter.

An elegant addition to your home decor, this is a one-of-a-kind piece.

Decorative Glass Platter – Artist

Myra Wishart Glass artist has been a professional artist and ceramicist since before the turn of the millennium. She has been working in the field of ceramics since the late 1980s.

Her work was initially all ceramic-based for the first few years of her professional career as an artist.

It was only after a chance visit to a glass exhibition that Mrya considered changing direction and working as a glass artist. After attending the British Glass Biennale in 2004 she was inspired to explore glass as a medium and began glass casting studies at Richmond Art College

She uses lost wax casting which is a great technique for capturing fine details on the surface of the glass.

Myras also uses fused and slumped glass techniques to create a wide array of art glass pieces. Myra makes frit wafers and will often add silver leaf and copper metal inclusions to her artwork.

Her pieces are painstakingly created using several layers and subsequent firings. This layering produces wonderfully textured pieces of glass that are as tactile as they are beautiful.

Once the final firing is finished, and the piece has been cooled, Myra polishes the pieces to a warm matt finish.

Many of her works can be found in private collections throughout Europe and Asia and America. They are highly sought after and would make a great addition to any glass collection.

Myra Wishart Glass artist pieces are inspired by flora and fauna, sea and landscapes. It is the natural world that lies at the heart of much of her work.

Myral is a member of the Kent Potters Association, Studio Potters, Contemporary Glass Society, Scottish Glass Society, and Just Glass Society.

Myra is listed in the third edition of the British Studio Potters’ Marks. Her work is featured in the Just Glass Book  – Brought to Light.
