Glass Cube ‘Expanding Cube’ in Green by Sabrina Cant
In Sabrina’s highly acclaimed cube series, each glass cube is made up of seven separately cast sections that are finely polished and fused together to achieve the perfect glow.
Once the perfect glow has been achieved, the piece is then shaped and polished until absolutely perfect.
Glass Cube Artist
Sabrina Cant hails from Chelmsford in Essex, England and earned her MA from The Royal College of Art in 2004.
Her work has been exhibited right around the globe to much acclaim and he has won many prestigious awards including The Bombay Sapphire Prize and the Coburg prize for contemporary glass.
Her glass cube and other abstract pieces can be found in fine public and private collections across the world and her work is highly prized and extremely collectable.
Sabrina Cant’s inspiration comes from the natural world and celestial bodies. She uses colour very specifically, and colour combinations are carefully selected and made into almost musical arrangements. Sabrina also uses colour to achieve subtle effects that add a mysterious slant to the inner harmonies of her work.
Colour layers are built up within pieces in much the same way as an artist creating an oil painting, the main difference being that Sabrina works in the 3 dimensional space.
Each coloured layer section is cast and polished with up to 5 firings until the precise level of reflective glow has been created within the geometry of the abstract piece.
Now working from her glass studio on Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, England, she is also the visiting lecturer at the UCA in Farnham.
