Kiln Fused Glass Art ‘Small Breaking Wave’ by Dreya Bennet

The colours of this ‘Breaking Wave’ kiln fused glass art comes from the reflection of the sky and seeing the sand and rocks through the water.

The wave is deliberately mounted on the front of the frame so that it twinkles at you and changes as the viewer or the sun passes across it; in the same way that the sea changes throughout the day.

Bring the ocean waves into your interior space when you choose this delightful kiln fused glass art by Dreya Bennet.

N.B. The image shown is an example of the series. Each wave is handmade and therefore unique – no two waves are the same.

Kiln Fused Glass Art Artist

The sea and its different moods have always been in Dreya’s life and have shaped her future in many ways. Her fascination for the sea and water, in general, began with the swimming pools and the sea in Africa. Her love of water intensified on return to Cornwall; seeing its beautiful beaches and the crashing Atlantic surf of the Cornish Coastline.

Dreya was a keen surfer in her teens, which developed further when she discovered the thrill of kitesurfing. Her incredible enthusiasm and ability led Dreya to compete on the world circuit achieving a ranking of World no. 3! She also set a world record by kitesurfing from Cornwall to Ireland (under maiden name Wharry) – an accomplished lady indeed!

Glasswork came into Dreya’s life by accident while studying at Falmouth art college.  She instantly fell in love with the look and the process of working with glass. This led to a specialism in Architectural Stained Glass at Swansea. Since retiring from competitive sport, glass art has become Dreya’s focus and passion. She has produced many stunning pieces including this kiln fused glass art.

Artist Statement

“The colour of glass, its reflections and translucent quality instantly captured my heart. Glass has a similar quality to water. It is enigmatic, you can look at it or through it. It is there and not there and can create a potent visual effect, either opulent or subtle. I love the challenge of designing for different buildings, interiors and people, whether a large architectural piece or an intensely personal small piece”.
