Katie Allen is an exceptionally talented British artist based in Swansea, Wales. She studied Fine Art Painting at the University of Bath and obtained a PGCE in Art and Design from Cardiff University. Since 2006, Katie has been painting full time.
The changing seasons and shades of the landscapes of her beloved South Wales inspire Katie’s artwork. She translates this scenery into rich patterns, forms and colours. When viewed as a whole, her paintings are of recognisable landscapes and natural forms – trees and plants, insects and birds. But look a little closer, and you will see detailed abstract patterns made up of intricate designs and beautiful colour harmonies.
A trip to Rajasthan and Lucknow in India in 2006 marked a turning point in Katie’s work. She started experimenting in new ways of painting to create beautiful work for which she is well known.
“I am greatly influenced by Indian art and architecture, calligraphy, Arabic art, Japanese paintings and fabric design. From vast palaces decorated with beautiful intricate patterns composed of gemstones and mirrors to delicate miniature paintings, from the gestural brushstrokes of eastern calligraphy to 20th-century textiles. I strive in my paintings to capture these qualities and to create something beautiful, evocative, delicate and carefully crafted.”
Katie Allen has exhibited widely and successfully across the UK, Europe, the Far East and the USA. Alongside her paintings, Katie is currently working on transforming her artwork into glass panels – watch this space!
