Impressionist Artist

Lydia Milford’s interest in art started early, spending hours drawing as a child. This led to a lifetime passion for and a strong connection to drawing and painting.

From school, Lydia progressed to Newton Abbot Art College and then to St. Martins in London to study illustration.  Subsequently, working as an illustrator, whilst painting in her spare time.
Despite the demands of raising her young family, she continued to find the time to exhibit her work. In 2004, Lydia returned to study at the college of St Mark and St John and obtained a B.A (Hons) in Art and Community studies.  After spending some time teaching, she then succeeded in gaining an M.A. in Fine Art from Plymouth University.

Lydia’s passion for painting has seen her produce some beautiful of the Devonshire countryside, where she was born and raised. Devon is where she is happiest and has lived most of her life.  She is forever grateful to live in a rural environment which is so important to her; needing the open fields, wild moorland and changeable seas of Devon to provide inspiration for her paintings.

Currently, her practice has three main areas of focus; Dartmoor, the Devon coastline and rural landscapes.  She is enjoying exploring seasonal changes and the drama of the weather and the changes in light that it brings.  Lydia works in water-based media, mainly ink and gouache on paper with added marks from crayon and pen or whatever comes to hand.
