Turquoise Glass Bowl ‘Glacial Waters’ by Michelle Atkinson
This rich turquoise glass bowl is part of an award-winning series. It represents glacial water found in Lake Louise in Canada. Circular tiles made from tree bark have been ‘pressed’ into the glass to leave an impression of natural wood. The circular shape represents both nature’s lifecycle, the community and connection of all things.
Shaped by Michelle’s own custom made mould and sand blasted to give a matt silky finish, Glacial Water is Stunning!
This turquoise glass bowl will attract many admiring gazes.
Turquoise Glass Bowl Artist
Michelle Atkinson was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 2003 she gained a diploma in New Media Production and Design from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. Since she has become an internationally recognised graphic designer, amassing over 30 awards. In 2010 on a whim Michelle attended a weekend glass class, it was there that her interest in glass was sparked.
With a desire to explore all possibilities within glass, Michelle set up a dedicated studio space. Although mostly self-taught, studying method and processes has enabled her to create her visions. Being able to create muti-layered concepts ensures a greater depth to her work.
Nature and landscapes are the basis of most of Michelles work. As her experience grows she finds herself bridging methods for fine craft with those for fine art.
Creating everything from mixed media jewellery to cast-glass awards, purposeful home decor to sculpture. Michelle has taken her practise all over Western Canada, where she has participated in group shows and markets.
In 2019 Michelle was the Home Décor winner of the Made in Alberta Awards.
Michelle is looking forwards to the day when she can become a full-time artist.
